Britspin 2020 - (Teams) Marathon and Extra events

Team Marathon - any hand-spinning technique

The winner of the Team Marathon is that team that spins the greatest combined length of BritSpin metres.

  • Spinners to report their spun totals in BritSpin meters to your team Captain before 21BST Tuesday 20th of October
  • Spinners to post photos of their yarns on the Team Marathon thread (no measurements) (see photo section of Terms and Conditions)
  • Captain to combine team's total in BritSpin length (see Information for Spinners) and submit their team total to BritSpin using the form available through the BritSpin website by 21.00 BST Wednesday 21st of October

Team place medals and points will be awarded.

Learn a New Skill Challenge

The challenge is to learn a new spinning skill at any time during BritSpin. It can include any spinning related skills including spinning, plying, or preparing fleece or fibre. You may learn this from another spinner or from a book or online resource. You can enter this challenge more than once!

There will be a thread for you to post in describing your experience of gaining your new skill in spinning, plying, or preparing of fleece or fibre, and for you to post one or more photos if possible. (see photo section of Terms and Conditions)

Individual challenge badges will be awarded and achieved points added to the team totals.

BritSpin Breedathon

How many different breeds or recognised and named crossbreeds of sheep can a team spin during Britspin, with minimum 50g fibre per breed?

If your breed or cross-breed of sheep is listed here then you know you can use it. No blended fibres are allowed in the Breedathon.

  • Spinners are to report their results and photos to their Captain 21BST Tuesday 20th of October
  • Captain to submit their team's list and total number of breeds to BritSpin using the form available through the BritSpin website by 21.00 BST Wednesday 21st of October
  • Captain to post spinners photos to the Breedathon Ravelry thread (photos only without any further details)

Team place medals and points will be awarded.

BritSpin Bingo

We will be providing downloadable and printable bingo card. The aim is to find and cross off as many as possible of the spinning related and other items/activities listed on the card.

Post your achievement in the BritSpin Bingo thread. Include in your post any relevant photos if possible. (see photo section of Terms and Conditions).

Individual Bingo badges will be awarded for a full house and achieved points added to the team's totals.

BritSpin Sprint

Spin AND ply as long a length as possible within 1 hour at any time during BritSpin. The skill includes calculating how long you will need within the 1 hour to complete the plying of your yarn!

Careful timing and calculations are needed, and you may wish to practice earlier during BritSpin before submitting your entry.

You can produce a yarn with as many plies as you wish and calculate your length in BritSpin metres. Your Sprint length can be added to your total BritSpin length.

All the fleece/fibre you use for the sprint must begin as fleece or fibre. No pre-spun or commercial yarns can be included.

One entry only per spinner.

  • Post your length achieved as soon as possible after winding off and measuring your length. Include in your post any relevant photos if possible
  • Do not forget to include the Sprint yarn measurement to your event total when sending it to the Captain

Place medals will be awarded and awarded points added to the team's totals

Photo Competition 'BritSpin joy by photos'

  • By posting in photo competition thread you are giving the BritSpin organisers permission to use your photo on our website, social media sites or other promotional materials (e.g. Posters) when advertising BritSpin event. (see photo section of Terms and Conditions)

This year's theme is 'BritSpin joy by photos. We encourage spinners to show what has brought joy to your event experience. Feel free to use your imagination.

All the photos are to be posted by the spinners on the Photo Competition thread. Winners are determined by voting.

Place medals are awarded to this category and points added towards your Team's total.

Awards and prizes for 2020

The overall winning team is that team which achieves the greatest number of points from all the challenges above.

In 2020 the overall winning team will help BritSpin administrators to choose the charity that BritSpin will support for the 2021 BritSpin event.

For all events there will be medals or badge images awarded that you can add to your Ravelry profile, blogs, team thread, and print to wear as a badge.
